Illustrated typographic words for your home by no-me illustrations

I've started creating some new no-me illustration designs which blend typographical lettering with tiny hand drawn illustrations. These illustrations are perfect to show in your home and also work really well in children's rooms. I love the soft, subtle illustrations which contrast to the heavy black lettering behind it. All the illustrations are inspired by various poems, films or sayings.

You can find them on my etsy page here They come in A4 size.

Our adventure to Rättvik and Stockholm, Sweden

I have been wanting to go to Sweden ever since my mum came back from there on a Quilting trip and I loved all her photos. It looked such an amazing place. Strangely familiar and completely different all at the same time. The thing that struck me most about her photographs was the use of fabric, wood and colour in their lives. So in April 2013 we went flew to Stockholm, then got the train up to Rättvik which is three hours up north from Stockholm. Rättvik and the town close by which is called Vikarbyn are the most beautiful places. With extreme natural beauty and wonderfully friendly people, I completely felt at home. Our B&B in Vikarbyn was set on a hill with stunning views over the lake which was thawing at the time. To see where we stayed and maybe stay there yourself, click here.

I was very interested in seeing their houses and the contrast with the buildings in the countryside compared to the city. The differences were vast. In the countryside all the houses where constructed from local trees - pine or silver birch and in the city, they were brick. However the similarities were that they all were painted very beautiful earthy colours. I absolutely loved the colours they used.

I found this trip perfect for inspiration and have some prints of my illustrations on my etsy page. I loved all the buildings so much and wanted to convey all the shapes and size of the buildings as well as all the colours within my illustration.

I loved seeing the Swedish Dala horses. I had no idea that each town has it's own painted design which represents each town. We went to a tiny place in the middle of nowhere where they sold dala horses that they hand painted. It was so lovely and I couldn't resist buy two to go with the one I have at home.

What is the perfect wedding gift?

I've been asked what someone should get as a gift for their friend's wedding later in the year. Something personal to them is always the best option and if it reflects who they are and their what their personalities are like then that is your best bet!

See below some of my work which make the most perfect wedding gifts. I can create bespoke comic style Adventure illustrations which tell the story of how the couple met, got engaged, right up to their wedding day. It's always fun to add a "to be continued" too should their family grow!

Maps are also a fantastic idea for a wedding gift as you can have illustrated where they currently live, where the wedding is going to take place and even (if there is enough space!) where they plan to go on their honeymoon. It's so personal and they will absolutely love the thought and detail of your gift.

Something that is really lovely for a wedding present is an illustration of the couple in front of their house or possibly where they got engaged. Home and other places of sentimental value mean so much to us and to have these places illustrated as a bespoke print will certainly make a fabulous gift.
